Uma Outka, Maine Law class of 2005, named Professor at University of Kansas School of Law
Uma Outka, an environmental and energy law scholar, will join the faculty of University of Kansas School of Law as Associate Professor in Fall 2011. Prof. Outka completed the joint degree program in law and policy at the University of Maine School of Law and the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service in 2005, receiving her J.D. (summa cum laude) from Maine Law and her M.A. from the Muskie School. After working for the Portland firm of Verrill & Dana, she moved to Florida and became general counsel of a leading environmental group, 1000 Friends of Florida, dedicated to sustainable land use and natural resource protection. In 2009, she became a Visiting Scholar in Energy and Land Use Law at Florida State University College of Law. In that role, she gained teaching experience and wrote several articles and received job offers from several law schools, including Kansas.
