Maine Law students collecting items for April 5 auction
Nov. 20, 2012
PORTLAND, Maine – The student leaders of the Maine Association for Public Interest Law, commonly known as MAPIL, are collecting items and donations of services to auction off at the organization’s biggest fundraiser, coming in the spring.
MAPIL’s 25th Annual Live and Silent Auction will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the University of Maine Law School at 246 Deering Avenue, Portland. An online auction also will be offered that day and in advance. Co-chairs for the auction are law students Amy Olfene and Brandon Farmer. The MAPIL events coordinator is Mariah Mulvihill.
“The proceeds from this event will fund summer fellowships, enabling law students to do important public interest legal work in the community,” the students said in a letter to Maine Law faculty and staff. “In the past, …countless individuals with insufficient resources to address their legal problems have benefitted from the program.” MAPIL Fellows work in a wide array of public service organizations and agencies.
Items auctioned off at past events have ranged from Boston Celtics tickets to handmade jewelry, gift cards for local retailers, yoga classes and even a seaplane ride with a private pilot. MAPIL welcomes any charitable donations for the auction, including services, vacation accommodations and items of any kind.
MAPIL is a student-run organization that provides a benefit to the community at large, while giving Maine Law students practical experience within the public interest areas of law, policy and entrepreneurship. The popular MAPIL auction is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, and it brings together people from all walks of life.
There is no admission fee, and the event is open to the public. Doors will open for the April 5th event at 5 p.m.; the silent auction will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and the live auction will begin at 6:45 p.m.
Please contact MAPIL if you are interested in donating any items, services or funds. Drop off donations in the MAPIL mailbox in Room 115 of the Law School Building, or send an email to Mariah (firstname.lastname@example.org), Amy (email@example.com), or Brandon (Brandon.firstname.lastname@example.org).
